Stuck In Florida?

I went to Florida for a few days having left on Sunday.  The original plan was to just head down for a 3 day mini vacation cramming in a few theme parks and the chance to swim with manatees in those few days.

Now it seems like our vacation may be extended as we are expecting to hit nasty weather heading home due to Hurricane Florence.

With that being said...it looks like we have no,choice but to be stuck in Florida for a few days.

Dang.

I'm sorry I haven't posted much lately, but my scanner was still down so I have had to use cards I may have shown off already here or on the Treasure Room.

N-43 N-43 Hut hut hike

Football is back!!!!

I have no idea what this card has to do with football other than it's name sounds like a play call.

The 2010 Allen & Ginter N-43 play homage to the original oversized N-43 cards.  Back in 1889, the original N-43 cards featured 50 athletes from many different sports including swimmers, oarsmen, walkers/runners, high jumpers, and of course Base Ball players.  Information on the original set can be found here.

The 2010 release also had autographs, relics, and autograph/relic combo cards.  The base set contained 15 players as part of the checklist.  Five of the base players didn't have an autograph or relic version, just the base.  The five guys that didn't get the bigger hit treatmeant included Andre Ethier, Hunter Pence, BJ Upton, Justin Upton, and unfortunately Andrew McCutchen.

Roberto Clemente Day

Yesterday teams announced their nominees for the Roberto Clemente award. I am hoping that Game 7 winner Charlie Morton wins the award, but all 30 nominees should be awarded for their work in their communities.

Andrew McCutchen won the award in 2015 and has followed in Clemente's footsteps everywhere he has been employed.  In his short time in San Francisco he was involved with the Jr. Giants program which helps young boys and girls get equipment for baseball/softball.  By making a $50 donation to the organization you would also receive a bobblehead featuring Cutch.  You know I had to support that.

Keeping Up With Cutch

My all time favorite player has been traded twice since wearing the black and gold in the 2017 season.  While I haven't been as active "Collecting Cutch" (especially recently) I am still doing a fairly good job of keep my Cutch collection stats comparable to Cutch's career stats.

I realized this when I entered my 1/1 count as 203.  This stood out because Cutch's career HR count at the end of his Pirates career was 203.

Looks like I will have to chase 15 more 1/1s to catch up to his current 218 level.

Another similar number is my total number of unique Cutch cards is 2,386 cards (not counting the small stack not yet logged).

Cutch's career number of times on base (hits, walks, and hits by pitch) are 2,414.

Looks like I will need 28 more cards to keep pace with that.

As stated several times in the past month I am still Collecting Cutch, but not at the torrid pace I was doing in 2015-2017.

Here is one of my favorite cards of Cutch in Giants gear that I obviously picked up this year.

These Gold Minted Stadium Club Chrome cards fell 1 per case.  I have the Superfractor too, but think that the gold mint looks far better.

I have been having trouble with my scanner lately, but plan to get it fixed soon.  I have to! October and all the pink parallels and Save The Boobies month is just around the corner.

Who's The Rookie?

Cutch's rookie year in MLB was 2009.  He came up sporting dreadlocks and some stylish facial hair. 

It's been a long time since we saw Cutch without facial hair.

Gotta go back to his draft year 2005 when he was fresh out of high school and selected in the 1st round by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

This is just strange.

13 years have passed since these images took place.

Terrible News While You Are Trying To Sleep

Last night I was laying in bed getting ready to fall asleep when I got the MLB AtBat alert followed by an ESPN alert followed by several email alerts and text messages.

Terrible news broke late last night.

Andrew McCutchen was traded by the Giants to the Evil Empire, the New York Yankees.

It is bad enough that I won't be able to see Cutch with his name on his back anymore, but he won't even have his trademark 22 either. 

The reason is because that number belongs to Jacoby Ellsbury who hasn't played a single game this season.  It must be nice to offer a guy $153 million to be a bench player for 7 years.

Great job Yankees. You have killed my Cutch fandom.

At least I can watch a Yankees game and root for someone besides just Neil Walker now. Let's go former Bucs!!!
