23 All-Star Appearances on 1 Card
I have been counting down predominately using serial numbers or card numbers.
Today would be the 17th day before Opening Day. I am certainly excited for that.
I am more excited to announce that in 23 days I am heading west for the Pirates home opener vs the Reds.
Here is a 1/1 card from 2010 Triple Threads highlighting 6 players that Topps thought would be Perennial All-Stars in the National League.
The players depicted on the card is a who's who of upcoming outfielders patrolling the National League at the time.
Justin Upton has been a 4x All-Star (2009, 2011, 2015, and 2017).
Ryan Braun leads the group with 6 All-Star appearances, but some of those numbers may be tainted as we later learned. From 2008-2012 he was an All-Star. He also represented the Brewers in 2015.
Hunter Pence had a comeback season last year and made his 4th All-Star appearance joining his resume for the 2009, 2011, and 2014 seasons.
Matt Kemp (who,was robbed of the 2011 MVP) was an All-Star in 2011 and 2012 and had a resurgent year in 2018 giving him 3 total All-Star Games.
Cutch represented the Pirates in 2011-2015 making 5 All-Star games and finishing in the top 5 for MVP in 2012 through 2015. He won a player of month award in June 2017 and had better numbers than Josh Harrison at the time of the All-Star Game, but Cubs manager who was representing the National League liked Josh Harrison's versatility for the exhibition game more.
Jason Heyward had an incredible rookie season in 2010. He hasn't made an All-Star game since.
This 1/1 is the Platinum version. I also have one of these booklets in the Emerald format (/18). There are also Sepia, Sapphire, and Gold parallels of this book to chase.

Cutch is the MLB version of John Cena
Topps has released two sets of product thus far into the 2019 season.
It's not uncommon for some stars to be saved for Series 2. Cutch normally makes the Series 1 cut though , but has shown up in 2017 (following his rough 2016 season) as a Series 2 star. Cutch missed Series 1 this year and it is likely because he was a free agent and would sign on with a new team and finished the 2018 season as a one month rental for the Yankees.
More disappointing, but not surprising is that he didn't make the Heritage lineup for any team. With the amount of Yankees that appeared in Heritage and Cutch not having any Spring Training posed pictures for the Yankees I am not surprised he didn't make the cut. Since he didn't sign on with the Phillies until just a few days before Christmas, I am also not surprised he didn't make the deadline to be included as a Phillie in Heritage.
So Cutch is 0 for 2 in making it into base sets for Topps. He does have 1 insert in Series 1, a Topps Stars of the Game card that features him in a Yankees uniform. There were no additional parallels of the card to chase.
Yeaterday, I saw that Panini released their 2019 Donruss checklist. Cutch again doesn't make the cut for any base cards in the traditional set. While this is disappointing cause I would have liked to see him appear in more New York or Philadelphia cards, I am ok with the delay in printing out more cards for me to chase early in the 2019 season. Andrew is included in a relic set called 1985 Donruss Materials and much to my delight he is to appear as a member of thePirates Pittsburgh Baseball Club. There are 3 color parallels I will need to chase for this.
With ONLY 4 cards of Cutch released in the 2019 season so far, that has given me time to get caught up on scanning, updating spreadsheets, and best of all ENJOYING MY COLLECTION as it stands.
Below is a camo card of Cutch from 2013 that I have had for a few months that I never got to enjoy by showing off on here. Topps started doing various versions of camo parallels beginning in 2013. The 2017 and 2018 camo parallels are EXTREMELY difficult to notice when going through a stack of cards. The 2015 Snow Camo version is a unique looking parallel to chase, but quite honestly Topps got it right the first time they tried. 2013 Camo reigns Supreme still.
The Camo parallels were numbered to 99 copies back in 2013 compared to some more recent numberings of only 25 copies.
It is rather interesting to see some of the batting leaders of the 2012 season. Allen Craig with 506 career hits over 6 seasons? Jordan Pacheco and his 293 career hits? A 36 year old Marco Scutaro? Any of these guys come to mind for being the best contact hitters in the National League in 2012? Probably not...

Trade Deadline Day: MVPs ON THE MOVE?
This afternoon marks the end of the nonwaiver trade deadline and we could see some big names get traded today.
Last night news broke that the Nationals are indeed willing to trade Bryce Harper. Could one of the faces of the game be traded in the coming hours?
Harper is a 5 tool talent that is a true game changer when on the field.
We have seen some of the best 5 Tool talents in the game get traded before so it shouldn't come as a surprise if one of them gets moved.
The green swatch from the Harper in the above 2 Hits Memorabilia cards is actually from a St. Patrick's Day Spring Training game cap.
I have a few Harper relics ranging from single jersey swatches to hat swatches to patches. One of my favorites though is this extremely tough to find triple jersey featuring All-Stars Andrew McCutchen, Joc Pederson, and of course Bryce.
I also like when I know when I can pinpoint where a jersey relic is from. The red and black swatches were from the workout jerseys.
One name we likely won't see get traded is Adam Jones who already has used his 10-5 rights to veto a trade to Philadelphia. I respect Adam's decision to want to stay in Baltimore because of his family and the amount of charity work he does in the city. That shows that he is a greater person than ballplayer.
Adam Jones is a very consistent player that usually puts up an average in the .270 to .280 range with 25 HR and 80-90runs/RBI.
This octopatch booklet is just ridiculous. It had 8 of the top outfielders at the time of the card's production (minus Mike Trout).
Injuries derailed Tulo from a HOF career.
This dual button is still one of my top 10 cards in my collection.
There he is!!!! Mike Trout!!!! He likely won't be traded.
Former All-Star Zach Duke was traded yesterday to the Mariners as they hope to solidify the diversity in their bullpen.
Oh you didn't know that Zach Duke who has been a lefty reliever was at one time an All-Star? Well he was in 2009 when Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel added him as a late addition to the roster. He was also a 2xRookie of the Month in 2005 (July and August).
There are reports that the Indians and Phillies are very interested in Cutch, while it also seems possible that the Yankees would look to acquire the former NL MVP
I can see Cutch going to the Indians as that would be a great fit and he will be available to play daily.
Philly and NY look to be a platoon position if they were to acquire him as their outfields are already pretty crowded.

Heritage Comparison pt 5: The Runner Ups
As I have been doing these Heritage Comparisons I have to give Topps a lot of credit. They have conciously matched up Cutch's Heritage numbering to Clemente's original card numbers very often. They have done similar things with Koufax and Kershaw too. Dodgers fans: Get On This!!!! It's a fun exercise!!!
Today I am only going to look at one card from the 2013 Heritage release.
2013 Topps Heritage is based on the 1964 design.
Looking at the National League Leaders card #7 we see Cutch finished second in the batting title race in 2012 and Clemente finished second in the 1963 batting title.
Before we get started let's take note that 14 players finished the 2012 season with a .300 or higher average. Some surprising names on that list include Marco Scutaro, Jon Jay, and Allen Craig. In 1963 only 11 players finished above .300 for the season.
It was ruled during the final month of the season that Melky Cabrera who was suspended for part of the season as a result of failed PED testing would not be eligible for the batting title per his request. You can read the article here.
Normally what I do for the Topps Heritage Comparisons is look at many facets of the players previous seasons and compare them. What I thought would be fun instead is to see how close both players came to actually winning the title and what months they made the most ground up in achieving that.
So we know that Buster Posey and Tommy Davis, two west coast players would win the 2012 and 1963 titles respectively.
How did they do on Opening Day compared to the Pittsburgh Pirates stars?
2012
Posey: 2 for 4 batting .500 after day 1
McCutchen: 0 for 3 batting .000 after day 1
1963
Davis: 1 for 4 batting .250 after Day 1
Clemente: 0 for 3 batting .000 after Day 1
I know I've talked about how Topps matches Clemente and Cutch cards up regularly. I was shocked to see they both had the same at bats to begin the season.
Let's move on to May 1st, shall we?
At this point teams have been able to get 20+ games in.
2012
Posey batting .353 on last day of April
McCutchen batting .302 on last day of April
1963
Davis batting .286 to close out April
Clemente batting .250 to close out April
Both Clemente and Cutch started out slow to begin their campaigns.
The weather is getting less cold and more of the spring temperatures. Will that have an impact of the Pirates superstars as they chase down the eventual batting title winners?
2012
Posey is now batting only .294 for the year after a rough May
McCutchen kept getting hot and finished the month with a .331 average to finish the first two months of the season
1963
Davis stepped up and was now batting .317 for the season at the close of May
Clemente who missed the last few games of May after being replaced by Stargell in the 6th inning of a game vs Phillies on May 28th was batting .307 prior to injury.
June is here and Cutch is ready to take the NL by storm!!!
2012
Posey is still hovering around .300 (.296 to be exact)
McCutchen is now batting .346 and leading the league in hits. He would go on to win Player of the Month for his June performance

Davis was raking at the plate raising his season average to .335
Clemente in search of the title has raised his average to .324 and appeared to have recovered from his injuries.
Another hot month of baseball. Another hot month of Cutch as he takes the 1st Place Pittsburgh Pirates into the All-Star break.

Posey is back above .300 now hitting .317 and getting lots of reps at first base to keep his legs fresh while still keeping the bat in the lineup.
McCutchen won his second consecutive player of the month award and raised his average to .371!!!!
1963
Davis being extremely consistent kept his average at .321 to close out July with just two months left in the season
Clemente overtook the batting title with a .331 mark to close out July.
In the dog days of August both Pirates superstars take a slight step back as the West Coast hitters gain momentum.
2012
Posey with only a month left in the season has closed the gap and is batting .329 to finish out August as his Giants look to make another postseason run
McCutchen after two months of being the best player in the game is returning to just being a Superstar instead of Superman. His average dropped to .344 and the Pirates who were once 15 games over .500 at end of July now remain only 9 games over .500 and are fighting for a Wild Card with, yup Buster Posey and the San Francisco Giants.
1963
Davis remains consistent as maintains his .322 average heading into the final month of the season.
Clemente with a slight dip in August production has now dropped to .320 for the year with only a month left.
As the final month of the season approaches teams are fighting for playoff opportunities and the 2012 Pirates are desperately trying to get to a winning record for the first time since 1992. Rather than resting Cutch more and just giving him extra days and time off to clinch his batting title, Cutch will play everyday as the season winds down and the Pirates clinch their 20th straight losing season. Thanks a lot Jerry Meals and your blown call in 2011.

McCutchen was batting .334 on September 26th.
It would be the last day Cutch would have control of the title with only 6 games left to play for the Bucs.

Davis and Clemente would face off each other in LA as the final week of baseball approached they were at .323 (Davis) and .319 (Clemente) respectively. Davis in anticipation of the postseason would only get another dozen at bats to finish out the year and win the title.

All My Cutch Cards Featuring the Astros
I didn't have a chance to show these off during October because of the Save The Boobies event I was running (all pink cards while showing off some nice looking chests).w
Because the Astros are no longer a division rival and have been inclining while the Pirates have been declining there haven't been many cards of Cutch with members of the Astros.
That's not to say there aren't any though.
Here are a few of the ones I have.
Up first is my oldest card of Cutch with a member of the current Astros team and the cover athlete to Sports Illustrated bold prediction, George Springer.
Next up is the unsigned insert card.
Now for the (expected) AL MVP, Jose Altuve.
I have two different parallels to this quad relic.
Topps Heritage has been producing ad panels as box toppers in recent years. The 2016 Pitt Power card is paired with Astros bullpen arm Collin McHugh.
Come with me on the way back machine as I take a look at my Cutch cards with Hunter Pence. Pence was a long time member of the Astros before being traded to the Phillies in 2011. The trade package included Jon Singleton, Jarred Cosart, Domingo Santana, and Josh Zeid. While none of those players contributed to the 2017 Astros in a positive way, Cosart being traded to Miami for Jake Marisnick, Colin Moran, and Francis Martes who all played for the Astros in 2017.
Also pictured on this printing plate is former Astros Colby Rasmus. Rasmus set a MLB record by recording an extra base hit in his first 6 career postseason games. He was on the verge of a breakout campaign and likely could have been an All-Star for the Rays in 2017 before deciding he needed to take a step away from major league baseball.
Congratulations to the Houston Astros!

Big Bang Things in small packages
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month. Visit the official site here.
Breast Cancer will be detected in one of eight women in the US each year.
It is the second leading cause of cancer death among women each year.
On average every 2 minutes a woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer and every 13 minutes one person will die from breast cancer.
There are currently 33 million breast cancer survivors in the USA.
It's important to support the research for cancer. Breast Cancer is often associated with the color pink so I will be showing off some pink Cutch cards.
In addition, you can expect to see some boobs with each post. Who doesn't love boobs?
So let's start with what we're hoping to save!
Thanks to Gavin's recommendation I will be showing off a series of busty shorties in the next few days. Today we introduce Melissa Rauch, who plays Bernadette on The Big Bang Theory.

It has Buster Posey on it. I really like Buster a lot, but a few years ago I was in a fantasy baseball team with some friends and had Bust (in) er Posey as my team name. My ultra awesome girlfriend calls him that all the time now because of that. Just a funny story I wanted to share.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day (Lots of Green Cards)
Today is March 17th and many of us will be celebrating Saint Patrick's Day today. Since it falls on a Friday, it also gives everyone a reason to go out drinking with friends.
I don't know how close I am to having 317 McCutchen green cards to celebrate 3/17, but I might set that as a goal for next year (that would be an insane goal). In the meantime though here's my latest Green Cutch pickup.
A 2016 Donruss Optic /5 that cost a hefty penny to acquire. Those things are ridiculously hard to find.
I will also show off 3 pages worth of green parallels.
And 17 "Hits" that are green parallels or green in color.
This is my only Green booklet.
Next up are 3 sticker autos
Now for the relics
Up first are Green Foil Jersey Kings and Bat Kings. After 3 attempts to rescan it, I gave up. Trust me though that the foil is green.
Now for the rest of the relics
I couldn't decide what copies of the 2015 Strata /75 Green parallels I wanted to show so technically there's more than 17 shown above. I just didn't want any of them to feel left out.
I hope everyone has fun tonight, but most importantly be safe.
