Thorsday: No Sleep Til...

It has been a very long time since I announced a Noah Syndergaard side PC.  You can see that August 2019 post here.

I have grabbed a few new cards here and there without showing them off, but this recent addition was a great value for a rare card.

I've talked about the rarity of The Brooklyn Collection and how the only way to initially get them is to be a member of the 582 Montgomery Topps Club.

This on card autograph numbered to only 75 copies cost me $19.  I would happily buy a blaster box to snag one of these.

Are You In The 582 Club?

The Topps 582 Montgomery Club has been producing some really nice and unique sets that are exclusive to members of their club.

In addition to a base set of cards with exclusive foil stamping (like you see below on my McCutchen) there are also some player inspired sets.

Francisco Lindor, Bryce Harper, and Fernando Tatis have all had unique sets designed for them with some great checklists and fun designs.  I really don't collect much outside of Cutch and the Pirates, but if you're a fan of any of the more popular players in the game today you might want to check them out.

On top of those sets is the Brooklyn Collection that now has two years running of nothing but on card autographs using "recently discovered" failed test designs from the Topps Vault for the 60s and 70s.  I showed off one of the cards in February of last year.

 It's tough to distinguish if this would be a 1960s or 1970s style design.

Since that post last year I have picked up 5 more (2 more unique designs and 3 color parallels).  I will show them off eventually in a future post.  I briefly showed one in my 1,000 posts sneak preview post, but that one is being saved for next month's Black History Month.

No Sleep Til Brooklyn

At the end of 2018 Topps had a complicated and expensive release schedule.

In addition to the releases of Dynasty, Transcendent, and Update Chrome there was an online exclusive release that was supposed to be very difficult to get.

The Topps 582 Montgomery club would give members first opportunity to purchase the Brooklyn Collection.  Unfortunately things didn't go as planned and the exclusive set with a pricepoint of 5 cards per pack and SRP of $1,000 per pack became available to the mass public sooner than anticipated.

The cards used 72 point card stock (same as a thicker relic) and every card featured an on card autograph of legendary players, fan favorites, and of course recent rookies with bold gold foil.

There were two designs for the set and many players signed both designs.  Base cards were numbered to 25 copies, red (/15), black (\10), purple (/5), and platinum (1/1).

The designs of the cards were said to have come from the Topps Vault of recently discovered designs from the 60s and 70s.

I was able to get a copy of both designs, but of different rarities.
