Remember when Rob Manfred was trying to get more youth into the game?

Remember how he tried hard to rewrite the "old rules" by "letting the kids play" through aggressive marketing campaigns?

Well, that was then...

now we are being told there is a great chance that there won't be a season this year.

MLB, the owners, the commissioner, and all those involved need to

"Let The Kids Play"

The 2012 Triple Play set was designed with kid collectors in mind.  Andrew McCutchen got a "When I was a kid" insert card talking about his childhood.

Fun Friday Entry 1

It's the weekend!!!

Things are supposed to be fun!!!

Baseball is fun, right?
Baseball cards are fun, right?

Most kids these days will disagree with those statements, but card manufacturers are trying to draw interest from the younger crowd.

My Fun Friday entries will look at how card manufacturers are trying to capture a younger audience.

2013 Panini Triple Play was a complete failure for the company to create a budget friendly set to attract kids 10 and under and get them to collect cards.

The set features cartoon looking images of players with some degree of likeness, but entirely stylized to the artist's rendition.    There are no team logos as expected by an unlicensed company.

The back has some facts about the player (although Cutch didn't win the MLBPAA Rookie of Year in 2009, he did win the Baseball America Rookie of Year award) but nothing too interesting.

Today packs of this set can be found for about a quarter a pack.  Upon release they had a SRP of 99 cents. 

If I was a kid, I wouldn't have any interest in this set.

MLB partners with Little League World Series

Tonight fans across the Nation can watch the Pirates and Cardinals battle it out in Williamsport as part of a initiative to generate interest in youth baseball and the Little League World Series.

I have a bunch of cards that feature Cutch as a younger baseball player, but thought I would show these two off for the event.

First up is a 2013 Triple Play insert

Next up is a Sports Illustrated for Kids tear away card.  I used to have a whole unripped sheet, but seemed to have lost it over the years.  This card is from 2012 presumably June/July time.  Sports Illustrated for Kids was such a fun read when I was younger.  I don't even know if it is still made today.

Puzzles!!! Grrrr

I hate putting puzzles together!

I am not good at it!

I don't have the patience for it!

And in my life I have never put together a puzzle consisting of over 50 pieces.  Never have!

Fortunately for my hobby love, I won't feel overwhelmed when trying to put card puzzles together.  They are numbered on the back and fit nicely in my Ultra Pro pages.

The 9 card puzzle set looks exactly like his base card from 2012 Triple Play.

The back has some fun trivia too.
