Ginter X Goodies, Ho Hum another 1/1

I recently got a package from Chris at Sports Cards Memories.

He had shown off some of his box contents and thanks to my friend Greg, he pointed out who to contact in regards to his 1/1 Cutch plate he pulled.

Inside were 3 Allen & Ginter X cards that I needed
First up, the 1/1 magenta printing plate

Next, the base

Finally, the mini with A&G back
Thanks so much Chris for sending this to me so quickly.  Thanks also to Greg for pointing out who would want a new 1/1 Cutch for the PC.

MLB partners with Little League World Series

Tonight fans across the Nation can watch the Pirates and Cardinals battle it out in Williamsport as part of a initiative to generate interest in youth baseball and the Little League World Series.

I have a bunch of cards that feature Cutch as a younger baseball player, but thought I would show these two off for the event.

First up is a 2013 Triple Play insert

Next up is a Sports Illustrated for Kids tear away card.  I used to have a whole unripped sheet, but seemed to have lost it over the years.  This card is from 2012 presumably June/July time.  Sports Illustrated for Kids was such a fun read when I was younger.  I don't even know if it is still made today.

Panini, you unoriginal bums!!!!

You may recall a few weeks ago I made a post about how Topps used the exact same wording for two card backs.

Well, Panini must of thought it was a good idea and did the same thing.  When I saw Spider-Man in theatres, I showed off a card that referenced the webhead on the back.

Little did I realize at the time of that post that I already had a National Treasures card with the same wording AND just a few weeks after publishing that post I would be getting in a new patch with the same wording.

Panini, you unoriginal bums!!!!

Give me something original on the backs!!!

Especially if I am shelling out big bucks for all the variant parallels on the front side.  At least make the backs have some original material.  The most frustrating thing is that National Treasures can cost around $400 a box and Black Friday packs are practically free.

Pushing the Chipz All In!

In my continued pursuit to add more Cutch items to the collection I came across these 6 Topps Chipz.

These neat little oddball collectibles are perfect for my collection as I used to have weekly poker games with friends a few years ago.  When these first came out I remember some went for a lot more money than I was willing to pay out.

Now they can be snagged for a few bucks for lots.  If anyone comes across any of the Cutch Chipz these are the only 6 I have.  I need a lot of the color variants (red, green, blue, magnet, sticker, and glow in the dark).

Another edition of "What does the chicken say"

Thanks for joining me on this second edition of (insert 70s groove music)

What Does The Chicken Say?

It's been a short while since we have had a $3 victory on Collecting Cutch, but I am excited to show one of my most recent pickups.

Best of all...
It ran me only $3

Straight from 2017 Allen & Ginter comes this framed mini relic of Cutch.  I've previously shown off some of my full size relics.

Stop with the negativity

I joined a Topps Chrome player 1/2 case break and secured the McCutchen spot for a winning bid of $2.

It netted me a few base cards, but I also got the Negative card.

Not a bad score.

Giancarlo can't be stopped

Is it possible to see Giancarlo Stanton homer in every game going forward?  It seems that way!!!

Fortunately for my fantasy baseball team, Giancarlo is playing out of his mind.  He has set a Marlins single season home run record, homered in 5 straight games, and has 251 career home runs in his age 27 season.  Only 12 players in MLB history have accomplished that.  Eight are in the Hall of Fame.  The four that aren't are Albert Pujols, Alex Rodriguez, Juan Gonzalez, and Andruw Jones.

I have shown off all these cards before when the World Baseball Classic was going on, but with the way Stanton has been playing of late, I thought I could show them all off again.

I have seen a dual patch of the below card instead of dual bat, but am content just having the Stanton bat (for now)

One of the coolest booklets I own is this quad jumbo jersey booklet.  Not only does it feature my 4 favorite NL players, it also has 3 team mates of Team USA who won the 2017 WBC.

Another really awesome card is this 9 player patch card.  This thing is massive and features incredible patches for each player.  The front features Buster Posey, Clayton Kershaw, Jose Abreau, Miguel Cabrera, and Robinson Cano.

Can't go wrong with Stanton, Cutch, Trout, and Kershaw.

Ugh...Yasiel Puig

I'm not sure if Topps just doesn't want to produce more cards of Cutch and Stanton or they don't see the pairing as being compatible on cardboard the same way Panini does.

I would love to see a decapatch card made of the 10 players who won the decisive World Baseball Classic game against Puerto Rico.  That would be awesome!!!

Anyone know any custom card makers who could make such a card?

If you build it, he will come

One of my all-time favorite movies has to be Field of Dreams.  The line, "If you build it, he will come."

While I don't claim to be John Kinsella, I will say this "if you build an Andrew McCutchen lot and I need 5 out of 7 cards, I will come and buy it".

Such was the case when I saw a lot listed that included 4x 2017 Optic cards and a Tier 1 single relic I needed.

I have previously stated how I have been slacking with Donruss and Optic purchases this year compared to previous years.  This lot gave me a third of all the Optic parallels needed to complete the rainbow.

It also gave me some doubles of 2017 Museum that I suspect Matt from BWTP won't be too upset if I sent his way.

Happy Belated National Baseball Card Day

I received a card yesterday from a friend who had attended a Pirates game earlier in the week, the Trevor Williams pitching gem game in fact.  Not only did he attend a great game in person, but he also got a pack of team specific cards to celebrate National Baseball Card Day.

This year Topps made their standard National release of a player from each team.  In addition they created team specific cards.  The Stadium Giveaways for each team feature 9 current players and 1 All-Time Franchise Legend for a total of 10 cards per team.  Some of the odd legends include Wade Boggs (Devil Rays) and David Ortiz instead of any of the other Red Sox all-time greats (Yaz, Williams, Fisk).  The Philadelphia Phillies recognized that they have no quality players on their team and released a 20 card legends set, not numbered.

Further details about both releases can be found here.

I have a National Release (with different picture) ordered and will probably receive it sometime later this week.

In the meantime let's (belatedly) celebrate National Baseball Card Day today!!!

Here's the 2017 Pittsburgh Pirates team specific release of Cutch.

The card back has a different write up than the National Release.

Gemstones added

I didn't have much interest in adding this card to my collection as I already have 2 different gemstones parallels from Flawless, but it was basically a throw in for a 1/1 I won so why not add some more diamonds to the collection.

It came with a COA

Shhhhh....speak softly....There's something majestic here

This might sound creepy or weird, but whenever I can add Cutch's laundry to my collection makes me a happy Supercollector.

This pickup features 3 nice swatches of jersey piping along with the Majestic Laundry Tag.

But wait....

It's also numbered to his jersey number (22/25)

This was a nice one to add to the collection.
It's probably not going to make the cut for my top 200 though.

This Day in Cutch story: August 10th

The Honus Bonus Partners Cards released this year have milestone 1/1s for players recounting homeruns, wins, saves, etc.

I had 2 already, but when the opportunity presented itself to add this new 1/1 to my collection for only $5 I couldn't pass it up.  I have since added one more as well.  I can't begin to fathom trying to collect them all.

Commemorating Cutch's 44th career Home Run off Jonathan Sanchez in a 9-2 victory on August 10, 2011.  Cutch batted leadoff in the game and went 1 for 1 with 3 walks.  He also scored 4 times, drove in 3, and stole 2 bases.  That's a heck of a day.

A contest is coming, but first...A Monster Unleashed!!!

There's many monsters of fiction.

I just captured a monster addition for the PC.

A dual jumbo bat booklet of two Pirates legends.

Willie Stargell is the Pirates All-Time Leader in Home Runs.

Andrew Mccutchen is one of only two Pirates to have 150 HR and 150 SB.  The other is Barry Bonds.

Cutch currently sits at 198 career HomeRuns.  When Cutch hits #200, I will reveal 200 of my most impressive cards.  You're not going to want to miss that post!!!  Will this booklet crack the top 200?

To further spark the intrigue...I will be running a contest.  Details will follow on that post.  Root Root Root for the Bucs and Cutch!!!

PWE Kindness

I love the community we have.
I received 2 PWE in the mail late last week.

I received a 2017 Optic of Cutch that I didn't have in my collection yet. Tom from Eamus Catulli sent this to me very quickly.

Matt who has two excellent blogs Sports Card Collectors and Origins of a Cardboard Addict, sent me a new 2017 Allen & Ginter that was needed for the collection.  He also sent two nice bonus cards.  I love getting some unexpected Cutch cards in the mail.
Preseason football games are often meaningless and my team, Steelers, will be facing off against his Giants.  Should be a fun game since I primarily live in Giants Country.  Gonna watch it with some friends while having some brewskies and wings.

Variants among variants

2017 Allen & Ginter has been out for a short time now, but I have already added a significant amount of relics to the PC.

Andrew Mccutchen got 4 different released relics available in mass quantities (/99 or more).

Among them are a framed relic and World Baseball Classic full size relic (will show off in future posts)

Also released are two different photos used for a full size relic.

The variants don't end there though.  Among those full size relics are different color jersey swatches.

Behold the chaos that is my life of a supercollector.

The "A" version
Late 90s pinstripe throwback uniform grey away, alternative black jersey, and home white jersey

I also have the "B" version pinstripe away throwback
The white jersey swatch is en route, but I just couldn't wait to show off my craziness that I go through trying to collect Cutch.

Daniel delivers

Daniel from It's like having my own card shop hooked me up with two high end base cards.

Thanks so much for sending these my way Daniel.

It's fitting that I received the cards the same day I posted my other Inception cards I currently have.

Another Mind F&$# by Inception

I am about a decade late with this post.  I finally got around to watching the movie Inception.  What a mind fuck that was.

Here's another mind F&#@

A nearing completion rainbow from Topps Inception (minus the base which Dan from It's Like Having my Own Card Shop) is sending me.

The 1/1 Black is such a great looking parallel

Mine Mine Mine Mine

As a supercollector, here is how I usually see cards on eBay when searching for new pre 2011 Cutch cards to add to my PC.

Mine. Mine. Mine. Mine.

Occasionally though I will come across a card that I don't have.

Then I change my seagull mentality to a hawk....

And must swoop in and add it!

This 2010 Topps Wal Mart black exclusive ran me $15.  It's the first one to surface in nearly 2 years.

All Rise!!!!

Aaron Judge has taken the card industry by storm this year the same way that Bruce Harper, Kris Bryant, Stephen Strasburg, Jason Heyward, Corey Seater, Carlos Correa, etc have done so in past years.

The difference between Judge and all the other players I mentioned...

Judge plays in New York.
The media capital of the United States.

On July 3rd, Aaron Judge was awarded American League player of the month for June.  Cutch won the National League award.

Topps Now offers collectors highlight cards to recognize players of their accomplishments.

I received my Cutch/Judge combo card.
It's my only Aaron Judge card in my collection.

Rock n Troll

I can't come up with any clever titles for today's post.  So instead you're getting a bad pun as I troll.  My latest rock inspired pickup is a 2012 Triple Threads Onyx /50.  It ran me $4 which is a good price for a high end card with only 50 copies made.

Here's the rock

And here's the troll...
I hate the Brewers more than any other team.  It has nothing to do with the teams I watched growing up.  Robin Yount is one of the best players of his generation.  Gary Sheffield was one of my favorite players I got to watch play against the Yankees way back before he was traded to San Diego.

No my hatred of the Brew Crew has everything to do with Carlos Gomez, Ryan Braun, Yovani Gallardo, Rickie Weeks, Nyjer Morgan era...The list goes on and on.  I hated those Brewers teams.  Two guys I didn't hate though we're Prince Fielder and Corey Hart.  I actually liked both those guys a lot.

Happy they lost their first place standings.
If the Pirates can't win the division, let the Cubbies win it again.

Let's finish on a good note

Did you know that Andrew's mother, who has sung the National Anthem at PNC Park a few times was also a top volleyball player and currently works in law enforcement?

The more you know...

Are there any teams you hate because of just a handful of players?

Something borrowed, something used, something new, something blue

Brides everywhere can rejoice!!!

Thanks to Donruss Optic parallel introduced last year they can borrow their future husband's baseball cards to comply with the
Something borrowed
Something used
Something new
Something blue

Optic borrows the same concept as Topps Chrome but applies it to their used Donruss cards as part of their new release they have a Carolina blue parallel

Each Carolina Blue parallel is numbered to 50 copies.
Matt from BobWalkThePlank showed off one of the duplicates I had of the Carolina Blue Diamond Kings.  Sometimes I buy large lots just to get 1 or 2 more parallels I need.

Here are the ones I have from last year's release and this year.  I have been slacking big time in adding both Donruss and Optic cards in 2017.
