Going dark for a few days....

I am on pace to have my 1,000th post on November 1st.  Because I have something big planned for hitting the millennium mark I am going to not post for a couple days so that I don't mess up the flow of SaveSecondBase event, it's recap, the World Series review, and any other blog worthy posts that may come up.

For the past few years I have averaged about 350 posts a year, missing only about one entry per month and keeping a fairly regular daily schedule of posts.

In preparation for my 1,000th post on this blog I have something big planned.  Details will be released after the Save Second Base Event I run each year.  Again, I promise this year's prizes for Save Second Base will be the biggest prizes I have given out over the course of my annual event.

Here are my three WalMart black cards of Cutch.

Topps began their black Wal-Mart exclusives in 2009

It continued into 2010

And finished in 2011 Series 2.

As we all know from Troutmania, WalMart changed their exclusive parallel to a blue border parallel in 2011 Update.

As a rookie, silk is hard to wear

I have over 200 cards of Cutch that haven't been updated into my spreadsheet or scanned to the blog.

Among them is an extremely difficult to obtain silk collection rookie card of Cutch from 2009 Topps Update.

I've sat on this card for about six months before finally unearthing it to show off.

Here are my other silk cards I have previously shown off.

The silk parallels are a fascinating parallel.  Most people pass them off as gimmicky (and they certainly are), but because of the low numbering and lack of general interest in them most people just hold onto them instead of trying to sell them.

It has been about six years since I last saw one pop up for sale.

The (Evil) Empire Strikes Back

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month.  Visit the official site here.

Breast Cancer will be detected in one of eight women in the US each year.

It is the second leading cause of cancer death among women each year.

On average every 2 minutes a woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer and every 13 minutes one person will die from breast cancer.
There are currently 33 million breast cancer survivors in the USA.

It's important to support the research for cancer.  Breast Cancer is often associated with the color pink so I will be showing off some pink Cutch cards.

In addition, you can expect to see some boobs with each post.  Who doesn't love boobs?

So let's start with what we're hoping to save!

I have no idea who this is, but it certainly is an attention grabber....and it features a nice look at this month's prominent color.

The Yankees are on the brisk of elimination at their rival, the Boston Red Sox. While I don't like the "Evil Empire" I do enjoy the thought of two of my favorite Pirates in recent years (Neil Walker and Andrew McCutchen) having the chance to play deeper into the postseason.

Here are my top 5 women wearing Yankees hats to try and hope they can pull out a victory so that Cutch may chase his World Series ring.

To the surprise of many fans, this isn't the first time that Cutch has worn pinstripes. During his rookie season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cutch would wear an alternate pinstripe uniform.

It can be seen on this 2009 Topps Update 1/1 Magenta Printing Plate. It's his rookie card.

I remember getting this plate from Sportlots for only $15 in 2010.  That was a massive coup for me.

Striking Gold: A Short Poem

I like to collect The Cutch
I don't like to spend too much.
I've bought from him before
That's why he didn't charge me more.
My latest card is a mini gold
The chrome looks really bold.
It's numbered to only fifty
This T206 Piedmont is way nifty.

I'm glad I was able to add this  2009 Topps T206 Chrome Gold Mini to my collection.  This is the first one that became available on the market in the past 4 years.  Super excited to get it in hand and add it to the PC.

A New Rookie

My favorite cards like many of us who grew up collecting cards in the early 90s were Upper Deck cards.  I wish that Cutch had more than just a handful of Upper Deck cards available before they lost their license.

I have been wanting this Upper Deck rookie of Cutch for several years, but never pulled the trigger on it because it goes for more than I have ever been willing to spend.  It tends to go for $30+ on comc and eBay.

Fortunately there was one ending at an off hour that I knew I must win.

And win I did.

I am so glad I can finally cross this off the wants list.  Now if I can just add a 2009 Bowman Sterling and all of the many parallels, I will have the complete rookie run.
