Superman Day

Every June 12th is celebrated as National Superman Day.

You may recall I discussed this day back in 2019 when I showed off a super rare 1 of 1 autograph booklet letter patch card.  

I was never a huge fan of Superman compared to other superheroes.  I always liked the darker more angsty heroes like Wolverine, Green Arrow, or Batman or I liked the comical heroes like Flash or Deadpool.

I do respect Superman though.  He is an American icon.

Superman is also known as The Man of Steel.

Finally Got My Hands On The Jinx for $10 Delivered

This damn card and it's parallels has been a thorn in my side for 2 years.  I don't know why this particular card seems impossible to track down, but in terms of Unity Triple Threads relics this *&$%er has done nothing but annoy me.

In terms of "high end" relics go, it's kind of blah looking.  Just a decent sized black alternate jersey swatch numbered to 36.

Anyone who has ever opened a box of Triple Threads knows that getting relics to 36 is the equivalent of pulling a Dave Stewart 1990 Topps.  There's plenty to go around.

And yet here sits this card that I purchased for under $7 with $3 s&h.

Damn this card!!!

I have no idea, but I know that this card features Polanco and McCutchen and Marte and for a winning bid of $1.90, I thought "why not?"

I was happy to see the players names were spelled correctly when it arrived.

Show some Unity

I've already completed the gold /9 unity rainbow from 2017 Topps Triple Threads.  I showed them off here.

Now I am going to start on the base version /36.

This is the second version, numbered AMT.  The others /36 are AMC and AMU respectively.

WBC Memories

I enjoyed the heck out of last year's World Baseball Classic.

It was awesome to see some of my favorite current players (Cutch, Arenado, Bregman, Adam Jones) all compete on the same team.

It was also awesome to snag all these Triple Threads relics from Probstein around Christmas.

I'm thinking that Cutch is going to have a monster season this year with San Francisco, batting atop that lineup and playing in stadiums he has had success in before (AT&T, Petco, Coors).

In the deciding game of the WBC tournament at Dodgers Stadium, Cutch went 2 for 4 with 2 ribbys.

Third Time's The Charm

Continuing the theme of some Triple Threads cards I picked up is this base version of the 5th version of Cutch in 2017 Triple Threads.

This card recognizes Cutch's 3 HR games.

Unlike the other swatches I have from Triple Threads, this one features three solid grey swatches...thus making it the most boring of the bunch.

Talking about Cutch being a 5 time All-Star

This pair of cards was another Probstein win back in December.

Cutch joined Clemente as the only Pirates to be in an All-Star game 5 times when he completed the task from 2011-2015.  He should have been the Pirates rep in 2010 instead of Evan Meek too btw.

Just Cutch It

Back in December I won a bunch of Probstein auctions for a very reasonable price.  This followed one Probstein auction that I absolutely got shilled on.  I will be showing them all off this week.

Up first is this 2017 Triple Threads that spells out Cutch.

The back makes mention of Cutch's role on the Pittsburgh history.

His tenure with the Pirates may be over, but only 3 people are above Cutch on the All-Time HR charts and they are all Hall of Famers: Willie Stargell, Ralph Kiner, Roberto Clemente.

150/150 Man

There are only 8 members of the 300HR 300 Stolen Base club.

Andrew McCutchen currently has played 9 MLB seasons.  Figuring that he will play a 15-20 year career, it is possible that one day he may join the elusive group.

Of the 8 members of the 300/300 club, only 2 are in the Hall of Fame (Willie Mays and Andre Dawson).  Two other players, Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds would be no doubt Hall of Famers if it were not for PED discussions.

There are 44 members in the 200/200 club.  Cutch is 2 homers and 30 swipes shy of joining that group.  It should be a safe bet that he will join that group before his career is done.

Regardless of what becomes of the rest of Cutch's career he currently is in pretty exclusive company with Pirates history.

I am still in search of the /18 Green version, but am happy I was able to grab the /27 version for under $10.  The other two (/9 and /36) I have had for awhile.
