I'm probably not the best person to be answering this, what with me putting up Halloween decorations in August and all, but I'd side with your girlfriend on this one (full disclosure: my Christmas decorations are already up).
I typically wait till around December 12th to put up decorations and listen to Christmas music. I'd rather have a couple yuletide-intense weeks rather than diluting it down over a month-plus and being sick of it all by the time the holiday actually hits.
Christmas decorations came out last weekend. If the weather is right, the decorations come out. If it’s still warmish, I’ll usually wait till thanksgiving weekend.
Our family tradition is the day after Thanksgiving. We've never done it before but we have done it later. That's no fun.
We sometimes put up the outside stuff sooner due to weather but didn't this year, and got 11 inches of snow yesterday and the day before! It should melt off enough for us to get the outside lights up though.
I’m with you - wait until next weekend. But it’s your girlfriend..pick your battles and all.
ReplyDeleteI feel like right after Thanksgiving is the way to go.

ReplyDeleteMy wife wanted our tree up this week. I wanted to wait after Thanksgiving. In unrelated news: our tree is currently up.

Gotta be after Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteI don't decorate for either. I go other places for both.
I gotta laugh at the wives' influence, but I'm jealous too.
I'm gonna predict your tree is already up. If not... it'll be up by tomorrow ;)
