Falco Files: Somebody Saaaaave Me

Each year during the month of October, I show off only pink (and shades of pink like magenta, peach, etc) to help raise awareness of Breast Cancer, a leading cause of death for females in the United States.

Due to my own financial situation this year I will not be able to make a donation for each (meaningful, non spam) comment left by those that follow the blog.  Once things settle down on the home front though I will be looking to make a donation in 2022 based on the comments left during this year's event.  Hopefully together we can help at least one woman get a much needed mammogram.  Early detection is key!!!

If you want to make your own private donation please visit the National Breast Cancer Foundation.  There is a donate button on the main page and it only takes a minute of your time.  Every little bit helps.

I have focused primarily on cards that only feature Andrew McCutchen on the card, but in recent years have also featured cards with a cameo appearance (either being seen on the card or as a name cameo on the back of the card).  In 2019, I created Falco Files which discussed players that replaced (Shane Falco Replacements movie reference) on an active roster, number worn, or trade.  I will also be showing some Cutch's Crew cards that show pink cards of players that have played with Cutch on multiple teams. I will continue to utilize these styles of posts as we celebrate the 5th Collecting Cutch Save Second Base event (I am no longer counting my first run on the Pirates Treasure Room I did back in 2014).

I am always looking for new ways to incorporate new celebrities into the event so today I am presenting

Erica Durance

I recently discussed my early internet crushes of Catherine Bell and how I used to do Yahoo searches and fan page searches for her.  Well, Erica Durance can be added to the top of the list for "googling" after.
I was really into comic books from 1998 to 2007 and there was no better comic TV show than Smallville during that time.

Durance played a very key role on the show when she made her debut as Lois Lane, the reporter from Metropolis.
Durance graced many magazine covers and appeared at many conventions I attended during that time.
I even got the chance to meet her at a Wizard World convention, sadly I lost the program I had signed.

She is still connected to the Man of Steel franchise as she plays a role on CW's Supergirl.

She also starred in the Butterfly Effect 2 which takes the concept of The Butterfly Effect and shows how each event that takes place has a subsequent event happen because of it.

In 2018, Cutch was traded for Bryan Reynolds, Kyle Crick, and international spending money.

In 2021 Kyle Crick was released by the Pirates to acquire Dillon Peters.  The MLB trade rumors article is here

The transaction of Peters being acquired by the Pirates and releasing Kyle Crick continues a Butterfly Effect that started when Cutch was originally traded to San Francisco in 2018.

Purchased for $0.40

Peters actually had a pretty good start to his Pirates career.  He started 6 games and went 1-2 with a 3.71ERA over nearly 27 innings.  He will likely be competing for a role in the back of the rotation next spring.

This is a card I recently purchased off COMC that hasn't arrived yet because I hadn't  requested shipment.  I wanted to get this butterfly effect before another replacement butterfly effect happens and Dillon Peters leaves the Pirates for someone else, continuing the legacy of Kyle Crick (a middle reliever the Pirates received for their most beloved face of the franchise in nearly 3 decades).

If you're into Butterfly Effects in baseball I STRONGLY SUGGEST you watch Stark Raving Sports Butterfly Effects playlist here.  You can find videos about how Max Scherzer's near perfect game in 2015 was strongly influenced by a 2006 Mets car accident and how the Padres going "all in" for the 2015 season lead to a Dodgers 2020 World Series Championship.

One of my favorite butterfly effects covered is how Torii Hunter robbing Barry Bonds at the All Star Game changed the history of baseball and lead to the Giants getting their 3rd Championship in 5 years.

Have you watched any of the Butterfly Effect movies?

Were you aware of Stark Raving Sports youtube channel?

Did you watch Smallville when it was airing?

Nothing Small about this Smallville Actress

Each year during the month of October, I show off only pink (and shades of pink like magenta, peach, etc) to help raise awareness of Breast Cancer, a leading cause of death for females in the United States.  For each (meaningful, non spam) comment left by those that follow the blog I donate a dollar to hopefully help at least one woman get a much needed mammogram.

Last year I created Falco Files which discussed players that replaced (Shane Falco Replacements movie reference) on an active roster, number worn, or trade.  I will continue to utilize these styles of posts as we celebrate the 4th Collecting Cutch Save Second Base event (I am no longer counting my first run on the Pirates Treasure Room I did back in 2014.)

Please be sure to click here for a Babe Ruth relic card I am offering as a contest prize to one lucky person who posts their own pink cards for the month.  I am matching the $1 per comment on YOUR BLOGS too if you show off pink cards.

You ready to get started

At the end I will be revealing another contest winner that ties in directly with today's subject matter.
I'm sorry (not really) if you're sick of this image already, but today I am showing off Kelly Brook.

Kelly Brook is a model and actress.

Model turned actress
She appeared in the film Piranha 3D abd The Italian Job
She has also starred in Keith Lemon

She appeared on FHM's Sexiest Women List from 1998 to 2015, winning the claim in 2005.  In 2004 FHM produced a top 50 of the previous decade (1994-2004) and she placed in the top 10.  The following decade's voting 2004-2014 she again placed in the top 10 proving that for nearly two decades now Kelly Brook has been dropping mouths with her gorgeous body.

Kelly Brook is stunning even after celebrating her 40th bday last year.

Brook appeared in Season 1 of the Superman Prequel series, Smallville, where she played Lex Luthor's girlfriend, Victoria Hardwick.

She is no slouch when it comes to Baseball either as she demonstrated with former costar of Smallville's Lex Luthor, Michael Rossenbaum, in 2014.
Smallville has become a new generation's Superman, but many people remember the Christopher Reeves 1978 Superman as being the iconic version of Superman.

In 2018 Topps produced an online set of exclusive cards based on the 1978 design.  One of the subjects was Andrew McCutchen.  The "purple" parallel you see above definitely has pink hues in the top right corner.  This card is also serially numbered 22/xx adding to my Cutch22 collection, a mini collection of Andrew McCutchen Jersey numbered parallels.

Now for the contest winner
I asked people to show off cards had a 3D look to them on their blog and I was surprised that only 4 people participated.

I said I would random it off 3 times (1 for each Dimension?)
Fuji was on top after the first random
John took over for the 2nd
And Fuji finished back on top for the 3rd random.

Congrats Fuji! Email your address and I will get the Kelly Brook autograph out to you in the coming week

For some comment chatter below feel free to discuss Kelly Brook, congratulations to Fuji, your favorite model turned actress, turning 40, or anything relating to Smallville/ Piranha 3D.

3D or DDD: Another Save Second Base Awareness contest Preview

Congrats to AJ of the Lost Collector for winning the first Save Second Base preview contest for the year.

With October being next week, I wanted to continue to spread the awareness early so I am doing a Blog Bat A Round style contest as I continue to give out some really cool prizes for interacting with me over the course of the next 5 weeks as I hope to help SAVESECONDBASE.
This blog bataround contest will close at 12:01AM October 1st so you have about a week to get your posts ready.

What do you have to do for the contest?
It's fairly simple, show off some 3D cards (because who doesn't love DDD when we're trying to SaveSecondBase).  Leave a comment below with a link to your blog post.

On October 2nd I will randomize the valid entrants into random.org and randomize it 3 times.

The winner will be the name on top after the 3rd random and will win this On Card Autograph of Kelly Brook.
It is from Inkworks Smallville card series and pictures Kelly portraying Victoria Hardwick, Lex Luthor's girlfriend in Season One.

Why am I asking for 3D cards to win this Kelly Brook autograph as another SaveSecondBase prequel contest?
She played a character called Danni Arslow in the 2010 creature feature Piranha3D.

Plus, not to be rude, but those have to be at least DDD...

Anyway, here are a pair (Oh the puns are coming out today) of Opening Day Stars 3D cards of Cutch.
I tried to capture the 3D look, but the scanner and my phone just can't showcase it the way I want.

Share your 3D cards!

I want to see everything from Sportsflics to Kelloggs 3D to Dennys Holograms to recent Topps online exclusive 3D cards like they did in 2018 and 2019 and everything in between.
It doesn't have to be baseball either, share your nonsports cards, your basketball/football/hockey/racing/wrestling/tennis/etc cards.

Show the power of the Triple D, I mean 3D!

Remember to visit breastcancer.org and help donate.
