First and foremost, congrats to CC Sabathia for becoming just the 17th player in MLB history to amass 3,000 career strikeouts and the most recent to do it since John Smoltz did it in 2008. The 3K club for pitchers is pretty exclusive company as there are more hitters in the 500HR, 3000hit club, more pitchers that have thrown a perfect game and more pitchers in the 300 Win club.
The Yankees had an incredible season last year as this card commemorates, but this year all three of the guys pictured are not active on the roster.

The Yankees were able to overcome injuries last year enroute to a 100 win season.
It will certainly be a challenge for them to repeat the feat this year.

ReplyDeleteJust finished reading an article by Buster Olney about Sabathia, where I learned that Steve Carlton, Randy Johnson, and him are the only three left-handed pitchers with 3k strikeouts. Pretty darn impressive.
