Target Acquired

Back in 2017 I talked about how I was finally able to secure the 2009 Bowman Sterling Black Refractor numbered to only 25 copies.  A recap of that post can be found here.

That post followed my Gold and Base cards I got earlier that year which I wrote about here.

A few weeks ago I was able to get another top target card of mine is any 2009 1/1s.  Rookie cards I don't have are always my top cards I am seeking. 

When I was at the Phillies game a few weeks ago I had to step out of line at Tony Luke's (cheese steak place at Citizens Bank Park) to make sure I won this card.  It is the 2009 Bowman Sterling Red Refractor numbered 1/1.

It goes nice with the 3 Gold's I now own

It also pairs up nicely with the yellow printing plate I have.

Keep in mind that any cards produced with a chrome finish have their printing plates printed reverse.

It completes yet another rainbow for me.

I have been adding some of the harder to find early Cutch cards to my collection recently.

To make a pun of the collection this year, it's been a bit of a Cutch22 (catch 22) adding the cards.  Because of Cutch's near Mendoza level batting average (.213 entering today) his card prices have dropped substantially over the past year.  This is good for adding cardboard of my favorite athlete of the past decade.  It's bad because well....he's my favorite athlete of the past decade.

Recently two of his more expensive rookie cards 2009 Bowman Sterling were ending around the same time.  The price on the refractor has typically been in the $25-$35 range since 2012.  The gold refractor (/50) has been in the $50+ range since that time.

I managed to grab both the refractor and gold for $25.

Reading the back of this card made me laugh.

Broken home

My parents are divorced. They have been that way for over a decade. I was fortunate enough to live through my teen years in a true family setting. My youngest brother was not as fortunate. After suffering a major leg injury playing basketball on the varsity team (as a Freshman mind you) my family began to seperate. It makes the holidays very hard now.

I began this new blog to share more about myself and what makes my super collecting habits tick.

Right around the holiday season, I started to make arrangements with someone looking to sell off their Cutch PC. One particular card I was interested in was a 2005 Bowman Sterling (his draft year) Black Refractor Autograph Jersey card.  The card is already slabbed as a 9.5 with nice Sub Grades and a 10 autograph.

Only 25 of these exist.

The ones that have been slabbed 9.5/10s typically sell for $600.

I was able to get this for a small fraction of the price.

The reason?

It has a broken home.

The slab has been absolutely crushed
I am not sure if I resubmit the card it will receive the same grades.
