Spring is (not) in the air

It's under 20 degrees today which can be expected for New Jersey in the middle of February.

And yet teams are reporting for Spring Training.
This 2015 Spring Fever LCS exclusive set is a fun set to collect.

I found this funny tweet that local radio nitwit Howard Eskin reported about Lawrence Mccutcheon being ready for Spring Training.
Cutch had a funny response which was a followup to the Phillies poking fun at Eskin

Of course there actually was a Lawrence Mccutcheon.

Mccutcheon was a 5 time Pro Bowl running back with the Los Angeles Rams.  He played with the,Rams from 1971 to 1979.  He also spent brief stints with the Broncos, Seahawks, and Bills.

Mccutcheon set a postseason record by rushing for 202 yards on 37 carries.

In Super Bowl 14 he threw a 24 yard pass.

So while Lawrence Mccutcheon is a real person, I doubt he will be playing Left Field for the Phillies this year.

Let The Games Begin!

Spring Training games officially start today.

The Pirates have a few interesting guys on minor league deals this year including the recently signed Michael Saunders.  I'm curious to see how Austin Meadows and a few of the other younger guys do over the next month.

As an additional update I have the autographs on my new site about 90% scanned and catalogued by year.  I'm hoping to knock out a year of base cards each week.

The Show!

When a player makes it to the Major Leagues, it's commonly referenced as "making it to the show."

Thanks to a strong social media presence in late 2012 Andrew McCutchen was able to garner enough votes to become the face of the video game franchise The Show (actual autograph on case below).

Over the years, Cutch has also had cardboard reference his video game presence.

My favorite is a 2013 Triple Tnreads card citing the game.

It's finally here!!!!

To us baseball fans, there are few better phrases than "pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training".  Of course hearing Opening Day, Home Run Derby, Postseason, and World Series Champions are pretty good too.

But for me, I get so happy when Spring Training starts.  The Pirates amongst many other teams are expecting pitchers and catchers to report today.

Everything is officially reset.

Someone who I have really enjoyed watching the past few years is Nolan Arenado.  I have considered going after a Nolan PC.  This card was part of a lot with the Cutch you see above.  Maybe it was destiny as this manurelic represents my first "hit" of the reigning 3B Silver Slugger and 3B gold glove winner.

The card backs are featured below.

If anyone wants to send me some Nolan Arenado cards I will gladly accept them.

Please don't forget about my contest.
It will run until Opening Day 2017
