Lost Cards from the Lost Collector

A few weeks ago I received a 4 card PWE from AJ at The Lost Collector.  The same day I received that package I sent him a package containing an Andrew McCutchen autograph Tier 1 Yankees card because he commented "I hope to get one someday" or something like that.  Well I had a double so I sent it his way.

Then in the middle of spring cleaning, I lost the location of those 4 cards before I could scan them in.  While preparing to send some packages to go out next week, I found them.
AJ hit my two main basketball player PCs with a Paul George and Reggie Miller.  He also included an orange Chris Archer 2019 Tek numbered to only 25 copies.  Sad news came out yesterday that Chris Archer is shut down for the 2020 season (if there is a season).  That 2018 trade that sent Glasnow, Meadows, and Baz to the Rays looks worse and worse every month.  AJ also included a 2017 Chronicles base card of Cutch.

Today I got ANOTHER PWE from AJ with even more Reggie Miller cards.  Sweet!!!!!  Of these 7 cards, 6 are brand new to the collection.  Only the All-Star card in bottom left was already in my collection.  I love the fact that he included both the cardboard and actual sticker of the '96 UD Stickums.
AJ hit up some more PC additions with a base card of Josh Bell 2020 Donruss (I am trying to put together the rainbow for the Cutch name cameo on the back).  The highlight though is that bright yellow retail exclusive 2020 Donruss of former Pirate and NJ born Charlie Morton.  Before being traded to the Phillies, I had every non-1/1 Charlie Morton card made.  I really need to up my Morton game for releases in 2019 and 2020.

AJ thank you so much for such an awesome pair of envelopes.

Stay safe everyone and Keep Collecting.

SANTA!!!!!

I saw the Portland Address and immediately thought that it was Gavin.  I even emailed him saying I got his Secret Santa package.

Then he hit me with this whammer of knowledge I had no idea about...other people live in Portland...and they blog too.

Rod I apologize.  I didn't see your name on the side of the box immediately.

I opened the package and saw some delightful pink peanuts to keep the package from shifting along with some Paw Patrol (?) wrapping paper.
I have no idea what could be inside, but the smaller package has to be cards I thought.
I immediately went for that...
Roberto Clemente on the top?  This looks promising.  Not much is better than Clemente cardboard.

Well except when you get MULTIPLE new Clemente cards.

Then I went to the oddly shaped package.  When I ripped the wrapping paper, I immediately went into lil kid mode.
I can't believe 1)you found this unique Cutch item and 2)you got it for me.
This is fricking sweet.  Pretty sure I will never use it or remove it from it's packaging to "unlock the pro in mobile game".

One thing I particularly like about this "kid's toy" is that Cutch has his cross armband still being worn.  I wonder if in order for the artwork to be approved by Cutch it had to have that armband.
Here is a closer look.

Rod wasn't done though.  He also included a pair of McCutchen holiday cards.

Thank you so much Rod!

Falco Files: A New Segment and Another Preview Contest...

Football is back!!!! Let's talk about it.

One of my favorite sports movies is The Replacements.  The comedy and drama keep me entertained from start to finish.  For those not familar with the movie it stars Keanu Reeves as Shane Falco who was a highly touted quarterback that could never step up in the big games.  After the professional football league players for the Sentinels all strike, the owner decides they are going to seek out replacement players for the closing season.

Shane Falco is one of those replacement players and this new segment will be used to highlight any post Andrew McCutchen news and cardboard of the players who replaced Cutch.

I have been starting a modest PC of Bryan Reynolds because he has quickly become one of my favorite players and was part of the 2018 Andrew McCutchen trade.  He is on the verge of winning a batting title in his rookie season.

Whenever I have a Falco Files post I will show off cards of guys who have worn Cutch's jersey number after him, players he was traded for, etc.

I will show off my very modest Bryan Reynolds PC in a future post, but I also want to announce my next contest for the Save Second Base Event. More on that contest at the end of this post

I will give a little preview of what you can expect for the event by introducing

Brooke Langton

She was the sexy cheerleader captain in the aforementioned theatrical masterpiece known as The Replacements.

She also appeared in a famous TV show from the 90s.  Perhaps you've heard of it? Melrose Place

She also replaced Sandra Bullock for the only season of the Net.  The 1998 TV series is based on the movie version of The Net.

Langton always seems to be replacing other characters in all her roles.

A similar thing can be said about Austin Meadows, who the Pirates used the 9th overall pick in the 2013 draft as a "replacement" for failing to sign their 8th overall pick, Mark Appel, in the 2012 draft.

Meadows was drafted as a centerfielder and was long thought to be a replacement eventually for Andrew McCutchen as the face of the franchise.  Due to injuries, his "quick road to the majors" turned into a 5 year minor league injury plagued career first.

His debut earned him Rookie of the Month for May 2018.

With the Pirates surging at the 2018 trade deadline having won 11 straight they made a bold blockbuster move for 2 time All Star and cost controlled Chris Archer from the Rays.  He quickly filled in as a fan favorite for the Pirates when he said he wouldn't wear his traditional number 22 for Pittsburgh to show his respect for Andrew McCutchen.  Archer went on to say that number 22 should one day be retired by the Pirates.  He didn't want to replace Cutch's number.

Instead he wore number 24, previously worn by Tyler Glasnow who Archer had replaced on the team's pitching staff when Glasnow was also a part of the trade with Meadows to Tampa Bay.

That's a lot of replacements.

NOW FOR THE CONTEST

Wanna K Cancer?
Want to win a pink baseball card of

Here's how:
Make a blog post about one of your favorite sports movies and connect it to some baseball (or other trading) cards in your collection.

The rules:
1)Must be a follower of the blog or my twitter account (@CollectingCutch)
2)Must post a comment ON THIS POST with your entry and a link
2a)Card will be randomed twice
3)USA residents only
4)Contest closes 8am September 25th.

Let's check in on the National League Doubles Leaders for the Tulo auto I am giving away.
It is going to be a fun next few weeks to determine who is the National League doubles leader at regular season's end.

And now it's time to reveal the winner of the Larkin/Sheffield pink Donruss card.
I entered everyone in twice for showing a pink card in their favorite player born in the 80s.
After the first random, Nachos was on top. He should be extremely excited about that as he put out a notice to anyone that wins it that he wanted it known he wants this card for his Larkin collection.

However, the rules stated I would random twice...

And AJ from The Lost Collector is the winner.

Thank you all for participating.  The next contest leading up to my 4th Annual Save Second Base Event ends in a few weeks.

The Archer's Quest: 4 New Additions

I picked up four new Chris Archer cards recently.  One is from Hits Memorabilia and features the E in ARCHER from a Rays uniform (top right).  The other three are from 2019 Topps Heritage.  I have the mini (top left).  I also picked up the black border and black chrome.

Winter Storm Harper's forecast

In case you didn't hear Winter Storm Harper is coming through the United States this weekend.

And I'm not even talking about Bryce Harper potentially signing a monster size contract either.

No, I am talking about an actual Winter Storm consisting of snow, sleet, and flash freezing.  For those that will be dealing with it, be careful on the roads.

Here are 2 of my latest pickups.

The Chris Archer metallic snowflake parallel was given to me by my girlfriend on Christmas.  Awesome, right?

And then I got the base holiday card of Cutch.  I still need the metallic snowflake parallel.

Gifts From Gavin

Gavin sent me an unexpected plain white envelope containing 11 Chris Archer cards.

Shortly after the Pirates made a blockbuster trade at the deadline acquiring Chris Archer, I decided I wanted to start a mini Archer collection.

I have no plans to start up a Chris Archer PC similar to my Cutch collection, but would like to get maybe a 100 or so of his cards.

With this batch of 11, my collection currently sits at 31. I have 2 autographs and 0 relics among them.

Thank you for the ultra generous package Gavin.

The Archer's Quest

I am starting a PC for Chris Archer.

Anyone got any cards of his?

I recently picked up this pristine orange Bowman chrome rookie card numbered to 25 copies.

I am looking for all base, parallels, relics, autographs, and oddballs of Archer that I can get my hands on.

Hook me up and I will return the favor.

We Got Archer!

We have heard the Chris Archer to Team X for the past few trade deadlines and offseasons.
The cost for acquiring the 2015 All Star and Cy Young candidate was steep as the Pirates traded away one of their top prospects, Austin Meadows, right handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow, and a PTBNL.  Meadows and Glasnow both have All-Star potential, but have had struggles early in their youmg careers.

Most of the early reports say the price for Archer was too much to give up.  While I wish that only one of Glasnow or Meadows was required to get Archer, the Pirates got a cost controlled pitcher for the next 4 post season runs.  The best part of the acquisition is that they were able to keep Archer away from Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Louis.

If Archer can return to his 2015 All-Star season, the Pirates have a feature ace for a Wild Card game.
In other trade news, Andrew McCutchen wasn't traded by the Giants today.
Cutch hit a HR off Archer in the 2015 ASG.  It was Cutch's last plate appearance in an All-Star Game.
I feel like the Pirates got the golden ticket and a true difference maker in this year's trading deadline.
I still need a few more parallels from the 2015 Update Series where Cutch is coming home after his laser shot to left field.

The most notable need is the pink parallel which I would love to get for my October Pink month.

So far I have the base, sabremetric back, foilboard, gold, snow camo, and the black.

What do you think about the moves your teams made yesterday?

Do you think the Pirates gave up too much for Chris Archer?
