Each year during the month of October, I show off only pink (and shades of pink like magenta, peach, etc) to help raise awareness of Breast Cancer, a leading cause of death for females in the United States. Due to my own financial situation this year I will not be able to make a donation for each (meaningful, non spam) comment left by those that follow the blog. Once things settle down on the home front though I will be looking to make a donation in 2022 based on the comments left during this year's event. Hopefully together we can help at least one woman get a much needed mammogram. Early detection is key!!!
If you want to make your own private donation please visit the National Breast Cancer Foundation. There is a donate button on the main page and it only takes a minute of your time. Every little bit helps.
I have focused primarily on cards that only feature Andrew McCutchen on the card, but in recent years have also featured cards with a cameo appearance (either being seen on the card or as a name cameo on the back of the card). In 2019, I created Falco Files which discussed players that replaced (Shane Falco Replacements movie reference) on an active roster, number worn, or trade. I will also be showing some Cutch's Crew cards that show pink cards of players that have played with Cutch on multiple teams. I will continue to utilize these styles of posts as we celebrate the 5th Collecting Cutch Save Second Base event (I am no longer counting my first run on the Pirates Treasure Room I did back in 2014)
Today's celebrity is...
Billie Eillish
She has been an internet sensation for nearly half a decade already dating back to her teen years when she broke into the music industry.
For a long time she often hid her body under extremely baggy clothes.
She let her talented voice speak for itself without being over sexualized.
The formula worked and she swept the Grammy's
It practically broke the internet to be honest.
By the way, did you know that Billie's middle name is Pirate?
There's an article here about all of Billie's middle names that you can check out.
For fans of card art I strongly suggest you check out Matthew Lee Rosen's bubblegum art cards where he makes "stains" on the backs of cards to resemble bubble gum marks found on the backs of cards from 1952 to 1992.
He has also produced modern players with the bubble gum stain treatment like the Stewie Griffin dressed as a pirate on the back of this 2010 Topps Heritage Young Bucs card featuring Andrew McCutchen and Garrett Jones. 2010 Heritage uses the 1961 Topps design.
There was a great video that played at PNC Park in the early 2010s about the Young Bucs youth movement that was being made with stars like Andrew McCutchen and Pedro Alvarez along with other core young players like Jose Tabata, Neil Walker, and Garrett Jones.
You can view that video by clicking this link.
What do you think of Billie's new look?
Should she revert back to her baggy clothes to continue to be a voice for young women against body shaming or should she continue to embrace her curves and show them off now that she's officially an adult?
I've heard her name... but don't know who she is. I do love the bubble gum art cards. He has a cool Rod Carew/Beastie Boys card... but his price is pretty steep.
ReplyDeleteEmbrace, embrace!
ReplyDeleteHmm...if she was doing the baggy clothes to make a point, why change all of a sudden?
ReplyDeleteI have only heard of her, not her music.
ReplyDeleteAlways hear the name but never could put a face to the name.
