Cardboard Cameo: The Girl Next Door moved to The Ranch....

Each year during the month of October, I show off only pink (and shades of pink like magenta, peach, etc) to help raise awareness of Breast Cancer, a leading cause of death for females in the United States.  For each (meaningful, non spam) comment left by those that follow the blog I donate a dollar to hopefully help at least one woman get a much needed mammogram.  Early detection is key!!!

If you want to make your own private donation please visit the National Breast Cancer Foundation.  There is a donate button on the main page and it only takes a minute of your time.  Every little bit helps.

I have focused primarily on cards that only feature Andrew McCutchen on the card, but in recent years have also featured cards with a cameo appearance (either being seen on the card or as a name cameo on the back of the card).  Last year I created Falco Files which discussed players that replaced (Shane Falco Replacements movie reference) on an active roster, number worn, or trade.  I will continue to utilize these styles of posts as we celebrate the 4th Collecting Cutch Save Second Base event (I am no longer counting my first run on the Pirates Treasure Room I did back in 2014.)

Please be sure to click here for a Babe Ruth relic card I am offering as a contest prize to one lucky person who posts their own pink cards for the month.  I am matching the $1 per comment on YOUR BLOGS too if you show off pink cards.

You ready to get started?
Here is a Second Base I want to save

Elisha Cuthbert
Chris of the blog The Collector mentioned his love for Elisha when he crowned her as the 2004 Crush of the Year while reviewing his favorite celebrity crushes he has had over the years.  It's a great read here.

One of my favorite roles for the Canadian born actress was in House of Wax

I have a weird fascination for horror/thriller movies like those the minute the weather gets a little cooler and we get into October.
And we are officially in October now!

She recently appeared on a TV show called The Ranch.  The show takes place on a fictional ranch in Colorado. The entire series is on Netflix and features a cast of Ashton Kutcher and Sam Elliot. The series just ended right before the pandemic hit.

It would have made a lot of sense to show off the card below again, but I'm trying not to have repeats in my SAVESECONDBASE events.
You see, not only does it feature Andrew McCutchen on the front of the pink parallel card, but like Cuthbert it features a Canadian who moved to Colorado (Justin Morneau).

But, if you know me then you know I have been having a lot of fun hunting Andrew McCutchen name cameos on the back of cards too.

This 2014 Topps League Leaders card looks back on the 2013 NL batting leaders.  As you can see Cutch finished 7th overall.
The winner of the award was Michael Cuddyer who played the 2013 season in Colorado.

This mini card also features the hero of yesterday's Braves vs Reds game.  Freddie Freeman should finally win the MVP Award that has eluded him for the better part of a half decade when he has quietly gone under thr radar as the most underappreciated 1B not just in the National League, but the entire League.

And with that name cameo card, we kick off this year's Save 2nd Base event.
Let's get some names going for who you want to see.

There's no looking back. This will be a fun month.

  2. What is it about beautiful women biting their lower lip? Why does that get our hearts racing? This is a great way to kick off the month!

    1. Because if they bit their upper lip we wouldn't be as attracted to them. Lol!

  3. Great start!

She was Jack Bauer's daughter on 24, and is married to Dion Phaneuf of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Thanks, Chris, for the awesome suggestion.

  4. Freddie is the man this year. This is my favorite time of the year and really look forward to these posts. Great cause and great what you are doing. And the lovely ladies... I really enjoy the horror/thriller genre so October is a great time of the year. Samara Weaving of The Babysitter. I'd bet you've already featured her at some point but she always comes to mind. Thanks for your Save Second Base campaign!

  7. Elisha Cuthbert is also surprisingly funny. Anyone who hasn't watched Happy Endings...the series wasn't the most consistent, but when it was funny, it was hilarious.

I always wanted her to play Power Girl, the DC heroine. She certainly has the body for it.

  9. Oh man... I've watched a few seasons of The Ranch and never knew that was Elisha Cuthbert. I know her name from 24... which I haven't seen in years (but was entertaining enough that I'll probably watch again at some point).

  10. Great choice. I haven’t seen her in a while bet definitely brings back some early 2000 memories.

  12. I don't know if you're much into analytics, but I'm sure some of us would be curious to see your monthly post totals. I think October might be leading the way. ;) Looking forward to a full month's worth of posts!
